Belvedere Waste transfer Jetty steelwork
Costains 2009
The contract to design a 270m long waste transfer jetty for the Belvedere energy-from-waste plant in East London was been won by Mott MacDonald. Construction company Costain, which was sub-contracted to build the facility by VonRollInova last year, has appointed Kelly Norman to carry out the construction of 7 no. of the Jacket Assemblies.
The plan is that containerised waste will be brought to the site at Halfway Reach on the Thames on 60ft barges. Once empty the barges will be refilled with ash from the plant. Jetty construction is scheduled to finish by mid 2009, before the main plant is finished in 2011.
Each Jacket weighed approx 40 Tonne and was constructed in the KELLYNORMAN yard at Rainham Kent.
The Protective system was a Glass Flake paint, also completed in the yard and transferred to a pontoon at our Quayside facility.
All steelwork 'Bird mouth' developments were developed and cut in house, temporary steelwork was used to maintain the high tolerence required for this project.
