Leigh Flood Defence Barrier
Volker Stevin 2009
The River Medway at Tonbridge has always been notorious for flooding, so the barrier was introduced as a preventitive measure to counteract this risk to the area by the Environmental Agency. The project of a method to maintain this system was given to VolkerStevin, whom approached KellyNorman to work alongside Jacobs Engineering consultants to introduce the mechanics of maintaining the barrier with the least disruption to the Environmental Agency.
The Basic design was concieved by Jacobs but was refined by KellyNorman, allowing for elements of the gangways to be removable at any time in the future and to be fully operational at all instances of the gates operation of 54 Degrees. The project was completed in September 2009.
